The ASCAP Foundation Jimmy Van Heusen Award

Louis Prima
Jimmy Van Heusen

The family of Jimmy Van Heusen established the Jimmy Van Heusen Award at The ASCAP Foundation to honor the legacy of the great American songwriter. Jimmy Van Heusen was one of the most accomplished songwriters from the mid-twentieth century, with countless hits sung and recorded by such American vocal icons as Frank Sinatra, Bing Crosby, Lena Horne and Rosemary Clooney. Some of his most popular songs were written for movies: "Swinging on a Star,” "All the Way," "High Hopes," and "Call Me Irresponsible.”

The ASCAP Foundation Jimmy Van Heusen Award is presented to an outstanding, promising composer participating in an ASCAP or ASCAP Foundation workshop.  The recipient is an ASCAP or unaffiliated member who is pursuing a career in television and film scoring and is selected by the ASCAP Creative Services Executives in consultation with industry executives.
