Event Theme Song "I Believe in Me" Featuring ASCAP Artist Psalm One, Flo and America SCORES Kids, Written by Grammy-winning ASCAP songwriter Alonzo “Zo” Lee, Available for Pre-Orders Now
St. Louis, MO, September 10, 2012 - On September 29, 2012, America SCORES St. Louis is joining forces with 10 U.S. cities to beat the Guinness World Record for the most soccer balls ever dribbled by a group at one time. This event benefits America SCORES youth and engages the local and national community in their mission to inspire youth to lead healthy lives.
St. Louis made history last year at the first annual Great St. Louis Soccer Dribble when 428 soccer dribblers came together to set the Guinness World Record, but the United Nations defeated the record with 2,068 dribblers in the Gaza Strip shortly thereafter. America SCORES St. Louis has called upon America SCORES sites across the country to synchronize their soccer dribble time and take back the world record together. Participating cities include Atlanta, San Francisco, Chicago, Cleveland, Denver, Portland, Milwaukee, New York, Los Angeles, Seattle and St. Louis.
"Soccer is an institution that spans generations here in St. Louis and across the country," said Pete Spanos, America SCORES board member and owner of Vetta sports complexes. "We saw the need for an event to pull together soccer players and teams from around the area to kick off the season, and as a result of its success, the event has been replicated nationally in 10 other cities."
Participants who register for the event will receive:
- Ability to participate in the world record attempt
- Official event t-shirt
- Official event soccer ball
- Free musical entertainment, featuring a national theme song hosted by ASCAP songwriter Alonzo “Zo” Lee
- Free skills demonstrations and 4v4 youth soccer
- Ticket to the SLU Homecoming men's soccer game that evening
Simultaneously in all 10 cities, the event will commence with either a live performance or track play of the event’s theme song, “I Believe in Me,” featuring Psalm One, Flo and the America SCORES students. The song was inspired by poetry submissions from America SCORES students in 10 U.S. cities, and made possible by The ASCAP Foundation. The song was written, recorded, and produced by Grammy Award-winning ASCAP songwriter/producer Alonzo "Zo" Lee (Ludacris, Britney Spears) for The Trak Starz/Starz Angels and co-written by Tendai and America SCORES students from 10 cities. It was recorded at Shock City Studios and features ASCAP artists Psalm One (Rhymesayers Entertainment), Flo (Trak Starz Records) and the America SCORES St. Louis students. The single is made possible by The ASCAP Foundation as part of the ASCAP Songwriter Residency @ America SCORES program. The national soccer dribble theme song will play a major part in making the world record a memorable and historic event.
"I Believe in Me" is the next single on the Psalm One/ASCAP Songwriter Residency album Child Support. The track is available for pre-order purchases at bit.ly/scoreschildsupport. To view the music video, visit bit.ly/TsbYkk.
All proceeds from the registration fee and money raised at the event will benefit America SCORES St. Louis, a non-profit youth development program that brings soccer, poetry and service learning to urban youth.
"Through the unique combination of soccer, poetry, and community service, America SCORES is providing opportunities for poet-athletes to be successful throughout their lives as students, citizens, and leaders," said Mayor of St. Louis Francis Slay.
